8-Day Herbal Journey to the South of France
24 April – 1 May
We are inviting you to join us for an 8-day herbal journey at Moulin Scalagrand, our beautiful home in the Lot-et-Garonne region of South-West France.
Since 2017, I (Frédérique) have been breathing new, sustainable life into this historic watermill and its surrounding buildings. Today, Moulin Scalagrand is a place where sustainability, self-sufficiency and biodiversity are at the heart of everything I do.
During your stay, you will be accommodated in the charming gîte, where you will share your room with one other guest.
All rooms are equipped with bed linen and towels, as well as handmade soap and shampoo.
Meals will be served in the cosy kitchen of the mill or, weather permitting, outside in the beautiful surroundings.
Throughout the week, I (Frédérique) will take you into the garden to explore and experience what the earth and its plants have to offer. Together, we will connect with this special place and learn to recognise, understand and use a variety of herbs and plants. Every day, we will harvest fresh vegetables and herbs from the garden to prepare our meals.
Programme
Day 1
Departure from Breda*. You will travel by bus to Moulin Scalagrand. You can sit back, relax and get to know your fellow travellers along the way. You will be expected to arrive around 7:00 pm, just in time to sit down for a delicious dinner prepared by me (Frédérique).
Day 2
We will ease into the week with a relaxed start. In the morning, we will visit the market in Issigeac, a beautiful little town where time seems to have stood still. The market is filled with local artisans and their products, ranging from handmade soaps and fresh vegetables to rings crafted from old silver coins.
The rest of the day is yours to settle in and enjoy everything Moulin Scalagrand has to offer. Feel free to take a refreshing dip in the natural swimming pond.
Days 3–7
The following days will be filled with workshops, visits to two local businesses and, of course, some time to yourself.
Permaculture & intuition: I (Frédérique) will take you into the garden and teach you to look at nature from a different perspective. During my Permaculture & Intuition workshop, you will explore how to develop and use this special ability. I will explain the philosophy behind my approach and show you how to put it into practice. Each day, we will also intuitively harvest ingredients and prepare our evening meal together in small groups.
Visit to Pouty de Gorre: We will visit the farm of Armel, who produces essential oils, hydrosols, herbal teas and syrups. After a guided tour of the garden, the owner will introduce us to the production process and explain how everything is made.
Visit to Annemiek's farm: We will also visit Annemiek, a qualified herbalist who trained at De Sprenk. More information about this visit will follow.
Herbal workshops: Several local herbalists will join us to host workshops. These may include an introduction to Bach flower remedies and the opportunity to experience them for yourself, making herbal teas and creams, gemmotherapy and producing essential oils.
Day 8
You will travel back with Suzan to Breda by bus, with a delicious packed lunch for you to enjoy along the way. Expected arrival time is between 6:00 and 7:00 pm.
