Permaculture principle 3. Obtain a yield
In permaculture, “yield” goes far beyond just food. It encompasses all the gifts that nature can provide. You might be surprised by the variety of resources around you: comfrey leaves for making healing balms, luffa plants that turn into natural sponges when dried, elderflowers for syrups, or nettles that can enrich soil and provide nutritious meals. Every plant, every element in a system has the potential to offer something valuable if we pay attention and work with it creatively.
During our transformative permaculture retreats, we take participants on wild foraging walks, introducing a diverse array of plants that can be cultivated at home to create practical, sustainable products. We also dive into the vegetable garden to explore strategies for maximizing yield, teaching how to grow food that nourishes both body and soul while working in harmony with the land. By broadening our understanding of “yield,” we learn to see abundance in unexpected places.
